No Black Tie: Adil Johan Quartet @ Changkat

It was my very first visit to a 'proper' jazz bar. Went there with some friends, Adam and Dzarif to check out the music. No Black Tie is located smack in the middle of Changkat Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur and right next to Palate Palette. The sign is not very big and we practically walked right pass it.

Funny story. We walked through the front gates and there was this huge wooden wall and two glass panels on the side. The three of us looked through and saw that there were people inside but there was so sign of a door. No 'push' or welcome sign visible. After a good five minutes of standing there, we discovered that the wall is in fact a really huge door that you can push open. Go figure.

After paying the cover charge we walked through the makeshift curtain door into the venue. The interior itself is very small but cozy in a cramped sort of way which gives the whole setting a very intimate atmosphere. The band have already started playing and the place was packed with people. Somehow the only table available was the one right at the front.

This is my kind of night; good music, friends and a glass of mojito. I love jazz. There's something about this genre of music that I find refreshing. At certain points of the night I was like dayummm these people are tight. Their music is not very typical jazz but rather a fusion across genres so it was interesting.
