Ben's General Food Store @ Bangsar Village 1
Last weekend some friends from school were in town and decided to hangout at Bangsar. After much walking about we decided to have dinner at Ben's General Food Store. With its minimalist decor, it exudes a certain authentic no nonsense charm. Their long linearly arranged benches are a reminiscence of high school cafeterias.
The menu is very straightforward, meaning they serve very specific things like pizza and a few other stuff like lasagna. First up was the portobello mushroom, which I really like. Well I like mushrooms in general and the earthy kind of taste they impart into dishes. This was shared among six people so I only got one bite. But that was one good bite. I want more!
Next is the pizza. We ordered the one with loads of meat on it and another based on the caesar salad. My favourite would be the meat pizza because I am a carnivore. I like thin crust pizzas too so that was a plus. This isn't the best pizza I've had but its still pretty good by my standards. Also take note that because of the minimalist concept you have to so certain things on your own like pouring water and cutting the pizza.
For desserts we had the chocolate mousse, apple crumble, and a dessert pizza with butterscotch based topping (sorry I'm not so big on details). It was my first time having a dessert type pizza and found it interesting. The mousse and apple crumble was really good too. This is why I love dining with a group of people. You get to try lots of stuff.
Ben's General Food Store is a great place to meet up with a group of friends. The only thing is that their selection of food leans more towards the fast-food side, specialising in pizza so don't expect things like burgers or steak. They have a good selection of desserts. And there was good company too! Glad to have you guys from Ipoh and Melaka in our humble little town of Kuala Lumpur.

ReplyDeleteMe too! FB me if you're heading there again. I stay about 5 minutes away from Bangsar so it's very near! Oh yeap, we are in the same AFS YES alumni. Not sure if you have heard of it, but it's a student exchange program. Just that I'm two batches ahead of him! I saw him the other day and I told him, he look really familiar to me. Not that I see him in the alumni, but in your blog I guess! Hahaha.
