Satay Celup Ban Lee Siang @ Melaka

Oh joy! Satay celup is Melaka's gift to mankind. I've only had satay celup twice and I'm wondering, why have I only eaten this twice?! I find it amazing how you can still want to eat it after fifty sticks considering that the thing basically has only one flavour. Its that good.
The idea of satay celup is that you have skewered items and you cook it by dipping in a boiling hot spicy peanut sauce. I'll say that it's easy to figure out what to do. You have a tray full of skewered stuff. You have a hole in the middle of the table which has a pot of boiling deliciousness. You put the skewers into the hole and wait for it to cook. You take it out and put it in your mouth.

I had this with a bunch of friends from school during our trip to Melaka last year. This particular one is at Restaurant Ban Lee Siang at Jalan Ong Kim Wee so the locals call it the "Kim Wee satay celup". It is one of the two more well known satay celup spots in Melaka. I visited the other one with the youth group from church. That restaurant has more variety but I had food poisoning after that. Lets just say that the next few days were excruciating, but so worth it! haha

They have a very good system where they continuously put stuff on your table and only charge you for the one's that you've eaten. That way you tend to eat more because the supply of food never ends. The satay celup at Kim Wee is good stuff. The only difference is that they don't have the more premium items that the other restaurant have like tiger prawns and abalone. The sauce is similar though I think that the one at Capitol has a little bit more oomph. But that's just me nitpicking. Capitol is extremely small for the number of customers that visits that place. I wonder why it never occurred to them that they should get a bigger place. The satay celup at Ban Lee Siang is packed but is much more possible to get a table to sit at and is less cramped.

Satay celup is definitely one of the things that should be on your must-eat list when you visit Melaka. Check it out if you're in the area.
