Trains
I do have fond memories of these train rides, not the modern fast modern trains but rather their historical counterpart. Travellers sit in compartments as opposed to the usual 'bus-type' arrangement. Because of this you tend to befriend most of the people who end up in the same cabin. It's a little awkward not to strike up a conversation especially since you'll be sitting right opposite him or her for the entire duration of the trip. You either meet young people who talk about the next party destinations they are heading to or older people who reminisce about party destinations they used to go to. I usually don't mind because most people have interesting tales worth listening to.
